A fantastic mystery, especially for younger grades. The chapters are short and punchy. Rami Ahmed’s mom cleans at the Penelope L. Brooks Museum, so Rami spends a lot of time there. A painting is stolen, and Rami worries he and his mom are both suspects. Rami’s school friends have abandoned him, so he is glad when a girl at the museum starts interacting with him. Strangely, she’s wearing older clothes and floating in the air, and she strongly resembles the subject of the missing painting. One creature did observe the theft: the museum’s yard turtle, Agatha, who eventually communicates the thief’s identity via a drawing in the dirt. Rami makes a new friend at school, Veda, who helps him investigate the mystery of the stolen painting. This book is an exciting read that explores the connection of art.
