This is a barely scary book full of horror movie tropes. I feel like the students that will be attracted to the cover/concept will be disappointed in the execution. It needed a darker, scarier, snarkier feel to work. A Lemony Snicket or Tale Dark & Grimm feel would have increased this book’s appeal.
Halle dreams of starring in horror movies. She gets a big break – a chance to deliver flowers to the private estate of one of her favorite directors. When she arrives, she finds octopus-like creatures attacking the staff and turning them into zombies. She also discovers the director’s twins that are about her age and have never been outside the estate. Together they work to defeat the monsters.
