Protecting Animal Pathways Around the World
Written by Catherine Barr, Illustrated by Christiane Engel
This is a fabulous nonfiction book about how seven different animal migrations around the world have been interrupted by nature or humans, including: birds, monkeys, fish, cougars, and even hedgehogs! For each pathway that has been blocked the book shares the inventive solutions by people who cared to reconnect the animals to where they need to go. At the end of the book, an additional seven animals and their crossing solutions are given a quick overview.
Lots of good information with additional facts in bubbles, and the illustrations are realistic, engaging, and fun. The inside covers even show the animals’ different tracks. My favorite part was the “I Spy”-element added to each animal, where you have find a specific number of that animal in the illustrations. Some took me a minute! This would be a great book for students who love animals, or to read for Earth Day.
