The illustrations are bright and inviting. The text is super simple, as expected for a Step into Reading book. The story follows a little girl, Raina, sharing the joys of the Diwali Holiday. It focuses mostly on Raina’s relationship with her dog, Lion.
In some ways this book might be better for a child who celebrates Diwali than a child wanting to learn about Diwali as a lot of the holiday symbols are not explained and there is no backmatter. However, the illustrations and simple text will appeal to any beginning reader. I anticipate this to be checked out often by Kindergarten and First grade students.
