A Story of Slavery and Freedom
Written by Afua Cooper
I loved this book! As an adult, parent, and an educator, I found it not only good for children, youth, and classes, but very insightful for myself as well. I learned some details about slavery in the early and mid 1800s that I was not aware of!
This book was written in a way that is very easy to read; as a story. It was easy for me to picture so many of the happenings in my mind. It would be a great book for teachers to read aloud to students also.
As I read this book, I was also saddened by the mistreatment and the breaking up of so many families because of the color of their skin, long held traditions, false beliefs, and views of society. It really opened my eyes even more.
Reading this book made me very interested to learn more about Henry Bibb, his life, and his story. I want to check out is autobiography now. Also, it made me more grateful and aware of so many good people who fought for freedom, fought for equal rights, who never gave up, and who fought, lived their lives, and even gave their life, so many others could have what they didn’t.
I totally recommend this book!
