A Black History Book for Kids
Written by Kimberly Brown Pellum, PhD, Illustrated by Keisha Morris
In this book, Kimberly Brown Pellum shines a light on some well known black women in history as well as some less well known but just as amazing black women that have been overlooked. With names like Katherine Johnson, Mae Jemison, and Bessie Coleman, the readers may find stories they already know while finding out more about the people they’re familiar with. But with 15 total black women in this book, I imagine the reader will discover more black women pioneers than they knew before. All these women were instrumental in the advancement of science in one field or another: medicine, space, scientific research, aviation, GPS, entomology, chemistry, mathematics, and more. What an enlightening, refreshing book about amazing people who overcame great odds to achieve their dreams. Very inspiring! I would recommend this to teachers to spotlight historical figures in their lessons and to students that are curious about STEM topics and people in history who made advancements in these fields.
