Written and Illustrated by Debbie Fong
This book deals with the aftermath of a family tragedy and how each family member deals with it differently, which strains some family relationships and bonds others. Everyone processes grief differently and the author shows different perspectives in that process. The author explores relationships with both family and friends and how people and experiences can change us, and healing is possible.
As I started reading, I had all kinds of questions about the main character Pia and her family. The author slowly answered these questions through flashbacks. There is a dash of quirkiness and the hope of a magical lake that brings all of the characters together.
