Trial by Fire is a well written story of a teen who is weak in one world, but one of the most powerful in another. Josephine Angelini pulls you in to Lily’s world. The world she paints allows you to empathize with Lily as she goes through a regular day filled with landmines to her health. Her allergies are taking her one step closer to living in a bubble if the natural world doesn’t kill her first.
After an embarrassing episode, Lily is then transported to a parallel world where she goes from being one of the weak, to the ‘The’ most powerful being. She is literally pitted against herself in this alternate Salem. There are two Lily’s with so many similarities, yet not at all alike. One is all powerful, the other is just discovering herself and the powers she has always had, but just didn’t know.
I was pulled into the pages and transported into an alternate Salem, going through Lily’s self-discovery and a love that comes from an unlikely place. Angelini’s use of words paints a canvas of characters and of a world that you feel a part of. A world filled with Witches and their Mechanics, heroes and villains, nut also with family and a bond that time, space, and being in another universe can’t change.
This book was very well written and I would recommend it. The only negative thing I have to say about this novel is that it’s a trilogy and I have to wait until next year for the sequel. I await its release anxiously.
