You’re in Charge – Basic Rules Every Babysitter Needs to Know is an excellent book to help educate girls/young women about the ins and outs of babysitting. I love the real-life pictures, layout, and mini-quizzes. The chapters are short and thorough from 2-6 pages each: Being a Responsible Leader, Child Care Basics: Safety and Routines, Caring for Infants and Toddlers, Caring for Preschoolers and School-Age Children, and Behavior Basics. It is written for a 3rd-4th grade level, but I imagine 5th-6th graders will be more interested as they are getting closer to babysitter age. It’s too bad there wasn’t anything in the book that boys/young men could relate to; after all they babysit sometimes too. I’m considering the other books in this series if this one is of interest to my students.
