Neighborhood Sharks

nieghborhoodsharksHunting with the Great Whites of California’s Farallon Islands

Written and Illustrated by Katherine Roy

This book will be a great addition to the (597.3) shark section of the library. This nonfiction book is presented in story form. A reader can read the larger print in story form and then choose to read the smaller print on the pages to learn more facts and history of the Great White Sharks. This is not just your basic nonfiction book full of bloody pictures about the Great Whites. The reader comes to know how these sharks live and migrate to different locations in their yearly life cycle. The reader is introduced to a protected hunting ground that Great Whites visit during their yearly cycle. The facts about Great Whites are presented in a new and intriguing way. I would also note the refreshing illustrations that are also provided by Katherine Roy. Some of the the pictures might seem a little violent or shocking as the young reader turns the pages, but they are refreshing to see instead of actual photos. I highly recommend this book. I will be reading this for a future story time in the library.
