Excellent! Captivating! Non-fiction at its best! My students and I love the I Survived series. The books in this series are always on hold and the students can’t wait for more to be written. Even the students that say they hate reading have found they LOVE this series. Wahoo!!!
I was excited to read Lauren Tarshis non-fiction book, I Survived True Stories: Five Epic Disasters. Lauren Tarshis is an editor of Scholastic magazine Storyworks, where the heart of every issue is a thrilling non-fiction article. In this book, she has expanded the fascinating stories, added new facts and interesting tid-bits. She covers: 1)The Children’s Blizzard, 1888; 2)The Titanic Disaster, 1912; 3)The Great Boston Molasses Flood, 1919; 4)The Japanese Tsunami ,2011; 5)The Henryville Tornado, 2012. Each story is told in the most interesting, personal, and suspenseful manner. This is what makes history come alive for the reader. I highly recommend this book and the entire I Survived Series! An absolute must have for EVERY library!
(BTW-I have put this in the Fiction area with our I Survived series so that it will actually get read.)
