Written by Taye Diggs, Illustrated by Shane W. Evans
The message of this book is important: no one really fits in a mold, no matter how we look; and there are no rules to how a family is put together. I found the delivery of this message a bit too simplistic though: I’m different; people stare; it’s okay to be me. The book doesn’t address how to handle awkward moments or how to accept others, which would be helpful for some readers looking for ideas to guide their own children. It is a great book though to open up a dialog. And perhaps Diggs knows that often the best place to find answers is in the home during a family discussion – and he is offering a way to get it started.

Sounds like this would’ve been a great book when our theme was Diverse books.
You are so right Allyson. It would be perfect for that.
