Ordinary People Change the World
Written by Brad Meltzer, Illustrated by Christopher Eliopoulos
Did you know that during the Revolutionary War the colonists used invisible ink and George Washington’s code name was 711? The reason he was chosen to lead the armies was simply because he was the only one who showed up at the Continental Congress meeting who was wearing a uniform! This simple biography, told first person by George, is a beginning level graphic novel mixed with picture book format. Lots of facts are given about Washington’s childhood. There was so much new information that I have not read anywhere else about what and who shaped him to become a socially educated, respected, military man and leader. There is an emphasis on being brave enough to be the first one to forge the path in a new adventure, to be determined to succeed, and to be trustworthy and strong in adversity. This is an excellent book and a series, Ordinary People Change the World, I would definitely love to own. Other titles include: I am Amelia Earhart, Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Albert Einstein, Jackie Robinson, Lucille Ball, Helen Keller, Martin Luther King, and Jane Goodall.
