Royal Wedding Disaster

From the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess, #2

Written by Meg Cabot

This series starts after Mia, from “Princess Diaries,” finds out she has a half-sister, Olivia. You don’t have to have read the first book to follow the story in this second book, which picks up after Olivia has come to live in the palace in Genovia. Olivia is trying to get used to her new home, new school, new role as princess, while getting ready for Mia’s wedding. Not everything is easy at her new school. Her cousin Luisa is mean-spirited and makes fun of her. Her dance partner, Prince Gunther, flicks boogers at her. And she absolutely does NOT have a crush on Prince Khalil, the cutest boy in school. The pace is quick and the drama not too over-the-top, which is refreshing. Some of the dialog is a bit far-fetched for a 6th grader. (Sorry, but even a new princess with a month of proper training does not say “with whom.”) Overall, a nice addition to the series.

We have several princess series at our school that are well loved and this looks like a good addition! Just enough royalty, boy crushes and drama to keep the girls interested.
