The Boy with Flowers in His Hair

Written and Illustrated by Jarvis

The Boy with Flowers in His Hair is a wonderful book about helping others to feel better when they aren’t feeling like themselves. David, the boy with flowers in his hair, is a kind, universally liked student best known for his gorgeous, if not unique, hair. One day, however, he loses his flowers and David’s friend, the narrator, wants to help David feel better. He and other students make paper flowers for David’s hair until new flowers grow again. The story is touching and useful, teaching the reader to think outside of the box in order to look for unique ways of helping one’s friends. It also teaches an important lesson about how everyone goes through problems but good friends are there to help each other when life gets hard. The wording and illustrations make this an ideal book for younger students in helping to develop social skills and cooperative behaviors.
