A beautiful reminder that although everything has a place, that place simply may not be where we thought it was! Nicky is a shy girl who has a favorite place: the school library. Recess gives her a bit of anxiety. When the librarian is gone for a week Nicky has to go out to recess and does not feel like she belongs with the jump-ropers, soccer players, or hopscotchers. At her Mama’s café she gets some inspiration from one of her favorite customers, Maggie. Maggie helps her understand that friends come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, you just need to have something in common (Maggie’s group loves motorcycles.) This helps her open up and realize sometimes you have to take a risk in life (and make a friend.) The beautiful illustrations, with the book page collage and library references help you understand Nicky and her journey.
