It has been awhile since I’ve read a graphic novel and I was thoroughly entertained by this book. This book is about Mia, a girl with autism who has a secret identity as an internet singing sensation whose lyrics speak to many. Although at school she is bullied, all her peers who make fun of her are big fans of her internet identity Elle-Q. Mia has to overcome what others think of her, including her own mom and the limitations she thinks Mia faces. Through it all, her friend Charlie stands by her and helps her overcome her own self doubts and she sees them through their own insecurities. The unique perspective of the main character with autism was very interesting, informative, and eye opening, and would be a great mirror book for those that face a similar diagnosis and/or challenges. I would recommend that other libraries add this to their collections as it creates diversity and fills a need to have those with autism see themselves as a hero in their own lives.
