A Complete (and Completely Disgusting) Guide to the Human Body
Written by Adam Kay, Illustrated by Henry Parker
Okay, I am not too fond of the human body. Am I so glad we have them? You bet! Do I actually want to know what is going on inside the body, including blood, organs, and cells–not so much. But this book was an absolute delight!! Adam Kay teaches very useful information about the human body in such a way that I literally laughed out loud a couple of times! The information is so good and so easy to understand. Plus, it is so comprehensive! Heart attacks, reproduction, puberty, panic attacks, circulation, etc.–this book explains it all! With a plethora of quips, jokes, and puns, this book is actually a very fun read–even for someone like me that would not normally feel inclined to read an anatomy book. I showed this book to a coworker and they mentioned that the pictures throughout the book–done by cartoonist Henry Parker–reminded them of the old “MAD Magazine” style of drawing, and I totally agree! Everything is in black and white but it does not make the book boring at all.
