Leo’s First Vote!

Written by Christina Soontornvat, Illustrated by Isabel Roxas

Leo’s father has just become an American citizen. He is excited to vote for president. Throughout the story he and Leo research and decide for themselves who they wish to vote for. Leo is eager to learn about voting alongside his father.

The story contains many accurate facts about voting. There is a diversity of people throughout, including all the ways communities try to help and encourage citizens to vote. I love that Leo and his father research and decide for themselves who they wish to vote for.

Lastly, there is backmatter on voting and how kids can help. Overall, a wonderful and informative book about the importance of voting in the United States. The illustrations are kid appealing with blocky almost papercut illustrations. This positive story will motivate anyone to get out and vote!
