Summer Vamp

Written and Illustrated by Violet Chan Karim

Vampires at summer camp…where is the garlic!!

Maya, cooking show fanatic, is less than thrilled when her dad announces that his girlfriend, Charlotte, is moving in. The school year has not been the best and she was looking forward to summer break and cooking shows on repeat. Instead, her dad’s girlfriend signs her up for summer camp. Maya is thrilled to find out that it is a culinary camp. Wait, who are all these camp mates with sharp pointy teeth and pale skin riding on the bus with her? What was Charlotte thinking? Maya soon figures out that she is going to the wrong camp. She spends every moment hiding that she is human. Can Maya survive the summer and even make a few friends?

I love the cute and zany humor in this story. I am quite sure my students will too. My only wish it that I could have introduced my students to this book last spring. It would have been a fun summer read.
