Fergus and Zeke are two mice that are class pets in Miss Maxwell’s class. They do everything her students do. When the students had writing they worked on their own writing. When the students had singing time Fergus and Zeke sang along.
One Week Miss Maxwell had a lesson plan on where food came from. Each day she did something different with the children, teaching them all about food. On Friday, she had a big surprise for them and told them that they were going on a field trip the following week to the farm. Fergus and Zeke were excited about the field trip and wanted to go to.
The day of the field trip the two mice sneaked into one of the girl’s backpacks and were on the bus on the way to the farm. The students first learned about apples and where they grew. The two mice wanted to pick apples with the children but the apples were too high on the tree. The next thing they did was go look at the beehives. The children all got a taste of honey and the mice wanted a taste to but when they tried to get a taste all the honey spilled all over them.
This book goes on to tell the story of the children at the farm and the things they did and how Fergus and Zeke got into trouble trying to do the same things. Towards the end of the field trip they were stuck on some sunflowers and had to figure out how to get back to the bus before it left.
