Gracie Under the Waves

Written by Linda Sue Park, Illustrated by Maxine Vee

Gracie is obsessed with snorkeling and she has a huge goal to convince her family to take a vacation to Honduras, where they can all snorkel together. Her dream vacation comes to fruition and Gracie’s family is headed to Honduras. There are a few setbacks where Gracie gets hurt, but also must deal with a pesky little brother. When Gracie is injured, she becomes more educated about climate change, learns that the coral reef is in danger, and learns how to better deal with her high-energy brother, Ben. There was a lot of information about climate change, ocean preservation, and the impact that one person can have on making things better. I am a huge fan of Linda Sue Park, but this story did not grab me and keep my interest like her previous novels.
