World Rat Day: Poems About Real Holidays You’ve Never Heard Of

worldratday

Written by J. Patrick Lewis, Illustrated by Anna Raff

Have you ever heard of World Rat Day? How about Bulldogs are Beautiful Day, or Yell “Fudge” at the Cobras in North America Day? These and many other little known holidays are found in the book World Rat Day: Poems About Real Holidays You Never Heard Of. J. Patrick Lewis has written clever and humorous poems that are sure to make young children giggle. Along with colorful, eye-catching illustrations, this book is a treat, celebrating poetry, some overlooked animals of our world, and the joy of reading aloud. I shared this book for Poetry Month and the younger children loved it. Some of the older students would say, “There’s a holiday for that?” Students and teachers alike enjoyed this book.
