Uma, a young Euit girl, is seeking to be approved by the Elders to study with her father to become a Healer in her village. Instead, she is told she is to marry…suddenly the English soldiers arrive and kidnap her and her father. He is needed to heal the barren Queen of Wilde Island. Uma’s father dies after only a few months. Now it is up to Uma to help the Queen become pregnant.
Uma studies the Healer’s Book and does all she can to heal the Queen. When they travel to their summer castle Uma falls in love with Jackrun, the nephew of the Queen. Together they try to help the Queen. Suddenly the Queen’s teenage son dies. The family is in morning as they travel home and take Jackrun to try and replace their lost son.
Magic powers are used to stop the attempts of Uma to help the Queen. Uma is almost burned at the stake, her Healer Book along with her herbs are stolen, she has just one month to help the Queen or her life will be taken. She travels into Dragonwood to find the herbs she needs to make the potion for the Queen.
The Queen is murdered. Uma is blamed and again arrested, put on the rack, tried and found guilty of murder, almost burned at the stake but saved by the sudden visit of the King of Faires.
Intrigue and magic combine to make a story with a happy ending.
