Orchid Mantises and Other Extreme Insect Adaptations

Orchid Mantises and Other Extreme Insect AdaptationsWritten by Jodi Wheeler-Toppen

Orchid Mantises is an interesting nonfiction book about extreme insects. There are several different insects highlighted in each chapter. The pictures are bright and colorful. The vocabulary is not too difficult, although there are many definitions throughout the book, as well as a glossary at the end. It even lists some ideas to go with the Common Core at the back of the book as well as internet links to find more information. The explanations provide information without being too long and wordy so they hold your interest. I learned many things I didn’t know before as I read it. I would recommend it as a nonfiction book for upper elementary grades.
