Batman’s Dark Secret

Batman's Dark SecretWritten by Kelly Puckett, Illustrated by Jon J. Muth

This is a beautifully done remake of the beginning of Batman. Batman was created by Bob Kane, and the illustrator Jon Muth has used that story line.

This book has beautifully done watercolor pictures. One of Jon Muth’s books has won a Caldecott and others have won their own awards and recognition.

The story is retold well. Readers who love Batman will really enjoy this version. It is familiar. It gives the reader beautiful images of Bruce Wayne. The story is (predictably) sad and dark, but it’s not as dark as the recent movies (thankfully). It tries to gloss over Bruce Wayne’s parents deaths as much as possible. It also ends powerfully and triumphantly.
It gives the readers hope to be able to overcome adversity.
