Claudia and Mean Janine

Claudia and Mean JanineBaby-Sitters Club Graphic Novels, #4

By Raina Telgemeier, Based on the Novels by Ann M. Martin

Claudia and Janine are sisters and they are NOT getting along. Claudia is artistic but struggles with school. Janine excels in school, but rarely comes out of her room. Over the summer, Claudia helps with a summer daycare program the baby-sitter club starts. She is excited to be with her friends and the children. Her fun summer is cut short when her dear grandmother, Mimi, has a stroke. While caring for Mimi and the children, she learns important lessons about communication, family, and love.

The original book by Ann Martin was published in 1987. Telgemeier does a wonderful job updating the story while keeping Martin’s story intact. I have noticed that the older series was rarely getting checked out. It was a wise decision to make the books into graphic novels, which are all the rage these days. The graphic versions are always checked out.
