I have found my new nomination for the Caldecott award! The Wonder is about a little boy who wonders about everything. Many adults tell him to “pay attention” and “no daydreaming.” This is until he goes to art class. Here he is able to let his imagination flow and it does in magical, breathtaking, ways. Faye is smart to portray the everyday scenes in sepia and then the boy’s wondering in vivid color. Though The Wonder may be considered a children’s book, I think anyone of any age will be delighted by the visual joy that is contained in this book.
