Calpurnia Tate, Girl Vet, #1

Written by Jacqueline Kelly, Illustrated by Jennifer L. Meyer

The time is 1901. The place is Fentress, Texas, where Callie loves to study flora and fauna, and escape a few of her six brothers. Something may stink, but it’s not this rip-roaring adventure. When Callie’s little brother Travis finds an abandoned animal that is easily mistaken as a kitten, he wants to take it home and take care of it. After all, what kind of trouble could a baby animal be, right?!?! Callie and Travis have one adventure after another trying to save not one but two spunky and furry kits. A great introduction into the world of Calpurnia Tate. The short chapters and wonderful illustrations are the perfect combination for those advancing into chapter books.
