The Bicycle Spy

Written by Yona Zeldis McDonough

The Bicycle Spy is a thrilling story of a boy, Marcel, who dreams of joining the Tour de France someday. While in the midst of a war-torn and Nazi-occupied France, Marcel rides his bike to deliver bread. Unbeknownst to him, he is actually delivering messages to spies. His parents, the owners of the town’s bakery, are spies and sending secret messages across town inside loaves of bread. Before Marcel realizes it, he is caught up in a whirlwind of family, friendships, and war. I really enjoyed this book because of its great story of war and friendship. Marcel is easy to relate to in his awkward elementary school days and his dreams of better days. I would definitely recommend this book.
