Crooked Kingdom

Six of Crows, #2

Written by Leigh Bardugo

Kaz Brekker and his gang have a score to settle. A seemingly rag-tag crew, each member has unique skills that combined make them a force to be reckoned with. One is even a Grisha with supernatural powers. Now, after successfully completing a nearly impossible mission, they have been double-crossed by van Eck, a wealthy merchant, and one of their own has been taken captive and held as leverage against them. As if this were not enough intrigue, central to the conflict is the drug, jurda parem, which makes Grisha nearly invincible, but ultimately leads to their death. Naturally, several competing forces want control of the drug supply. The situation seems hopeless, but Kaz is clever and persistent, and not many who cross him end up enjoying the victory for long. Bardugo provides plenty of action and adventure, mingled with just enough romance for those who want that in the story, but not so much it is a turn off for those who do not.
