Bayberry Island

An Adventure About Friendship and the Journey Home

Brambleheart, #2

Written by Henry Cole

Apparently in the first book, Brambleheart, Twig, a squirrel, found an egg, which when hatched, turned out to be a baby dragon. In Bayberry Island, Twig and his animal friends set sail on the Captive to get Char, the baby dragon, back to his home to live with his family. Unsure of where they are going or how far they will travel from home, the crew will have to work together if they want to stay afloat and survive the catastrophes nature throws their way as they try to find Char’s mysterious island home.

Although this is a sequel, the author tells enough about what has happened before that the reader can follow and understand what is happening now and why. This is an enjoyable, fast and entertaining read for middle grade readers of gentle nature fantasy. The publisher puts the interest level at ages 8-12.

The author’s black and white pencil drawings enhance and enrich the simple text. This book is about friendships and working together in tough times.
