The Sand Warrior

5 Worlds, #1

Written by Mark Siegel and Alexis Siegel, Illustrated by Xanthe Bouma, Matt Rockefeller, and Boya Sun

I am usually hesitant about picking up sci-fi graphic novels. Often they are more graphic than story. So, I went into this book a bit skeptical…and ended up loving it! The story hits the ground running in the first few pages. Oona is a sand dancer like her sister. Her sister was “The Chosen One” but mysteriously disappeared and has not been heard of since. Oona is feeling the pressure to take her sister’s place but doubts her abilities. Someone must perform the sand dance that lights her world’s ceremonial flame in order to keep balance in the land. This book has warring worlds, adventure, mystery, bravery, magic, and a gripping story (which ends as a cliffhanger). I look forward to the next book.
