What Makes a Blizzard?

Written by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld, Illustrated by Maddie Frost

Let’s Read and Find Out is a series of picture books that perfectly teach scientific concepts through the Common Core Standards. This particular one was a fun one for library time, just after our own snow storm. We learned through an historical account of the “School Children’s Blizzard of 1887-1888,” just what constitutes a blizzard, and what makes a snowstorm. Through this real life event children learn these concepts in a fun and meaningful way. This is an engaging way to help cement these concepts.
