The Book of Pearl

Written by Timothée de Fombelle, Translated by Sarah Ardizzone

The Book of Pearl is a gripping tale that embraces two worlds: the one we know and live in, and the world of fairy tales – the stories we all grew up hearing. Jason Pearl, a.k.a. Ilian, was banished into our world on the brink of World War II. He learns to adapt to his new life, serving heroically in the war, but always longs to find his way back to his own kingdom of stories and his true love.

While I sometimes struggled with the timeline and deciding who the voice of the narrator belonged to, I enjoyed this book and appreciated the hope at the end of the story.
