Riding Lessons

An Ellen and Ned Book, #1

Written by Jane Smiley

This book is about 11-year-old, Ellen, who is spunky and occasionally misbehaving. She loves riding horses. Abby is her coach that is teaching her about horses and how to ride and take care of them. Ellen is introduced to Ned, a colt who used to be a racehorse, until he hurt his leg and moved to Abby’s ranch. Ellen and Ned seem to understand each other right away. She loves being at riding lessons, but she must behave at school to go to riding lessons.
Ellen has other things going on as well. She finds out she is adopted, and her parents are planning on adopting another a new baby. It is hard for her to behave with all this going on.
This book was a little hard to read. The paragraphs are long and a little tedious. However, if you love horses it could be a favorite.
