My Family Celebrates Thanksgiving
Written by Lisa Bullard, Illustrated by Katie Saunders
Thanksgiving from a young child’s perspective is what this book is all about. Grace is the young girl who explains Thanksgiving to the reader. Her reasons for celebrating this holiday include being grateful for a big turkey, lots of pies, and a large, extended family to share it all with. She also explains a little about the history of Thanksgiving with the pilgrims, and how Sarah Hale and Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving a national holiday. This book is part of the Early Bird Stories series and does a good job of explaining concepts to young readers. It is broken up into four very short chapters, with bubble questions along the way. There are also critical-thinking questions at the end of the book you could use in a lesson. Probably not a great read-aloud book, but one young readers would enjoy checking out from the library.
