As part of professional development sessions in January, elementary media clerks engaged in a Mock Caldecott activity in which they read, analyzed, discussed, and voted upon 20 Caldecott-eligible picture books published in 2018 to determine their group’s winners of the Mock Caldecott medal. This not only demonstrated a library activity they can use with students in the future, but also gave them an opportunity to dig into many great new picture books that they can now add to their school collections and share with students.

At the end of the month, the actual Caldecott Medal and honor winners were announced as part of the ALA Youth Media Awards presentation. A group of media clerks came together for an early morning viewing party to see if their predictions were correct. Nikki Gregerson created these posters showing the official winners of the Caldecott and many other awards.
