The Story Pirates Present: Digging Up Danger

Based on an original idea by real kid Phoebe Wolinetz

Written by Jacqueline West, Illustrated by Hatem Aly

I love that the idea for this book came from a real kid named Phoebe Wolinetz! In this book, Jacqueline West expands on Phoebe’s ideas in a mysterious story about how Eliza moves with her mom to Brooklyn, New York for a summer. Her mother is a scientist that will be identifying exotic plants for a plant store. Meanwhile, Eliza is doing her own studies about ghosts. When she is looking for ghosts, she seems to find evidence of them everywhere. One thing that she notices is that the most unique plant that her mother is studying disappears without a trace. The story stands on its own, but the reader is encouraged to look in the back of the book to learn how to write their own mystery. There are some really great ideas. Teachers may even find some useful tips for teaching their students how to write a mystery. Great book!
