Written by Angela Joy, Illustrated by Ekua Holmes
I love the illustrations in this book. The author is writing about black as a culture, not just a color. This story is a good reminder of the way Black people sometimes feel and reminds us of what this culture has had to overcome. A special bonus of this book is a music playlist in the back to go along with the story, as well as references for certain phrases the author uses in the book. There are also a few old and very moving poems, as well as a timeline of black ethnonyms in America. This would be a great read for Black History Month!
