This is a powerful book about self discovery and finding one’s value. Sends a great message to young teens that their self worth in a difficult world.

Rose’s father is the town’s magic collector and Rose, nicknamed Little Luck, is expected to follow in his footsteps. This will be Rose’s first year, as she is 12, that she is able to collect magic with her family. However, when the New Year comes, she barely collects one tiny jar of magic because she can’t “hear” the magic like her father and brother. At this, her once loving and doting father ignores her and withdraws his attention. Feeling unworthy of magic, Rose sets out in the real world to find herself and her value in the world.
