When Bessie Lee finds out about the talent show, she quickly decides to put on a magic show. She is very impulsive and does things without thinking. When the main part of one of her tricks disappears, she isn’t sure what to do, which makes for a great mystery throughout the rest of the book. Kids will love Bessie’s entertaining choices in how to go about life. This early chapter book is just right to recommend to solid readers that need a little more challenge to advance their vocabulary. Along the way, kids might learn more about what it might be like to live in a Chinese American household.
