Eat Your Woolly Mammoths!

Two Million Years of the World’s Most Amazing Food Facts, from the Stone Age to the Future

Written and Illustrated by James Solheim

When scientists found a prehistoric man frozen in a glacier in 1991, they analyzed the contents of his stomach, among other things, to see what his last meal was. They found he had eaten mountain goat, wheat, cancer-causing ferns, part of a deer, and to top it off, prehistoric flies! This is the kind of interesting history you get in the book Eat Your Woolly Mammoths! by James Solheim. It’s chock full of wild facts about what people have eaten through the ages, with a big dose of cheeky humor thrown in too, like this speech bubble from a Mesopotamian king. “Nobody’s comin’ to our feast and not gettin’ a dead mouse with all the fixin’s!” Kids who love Guinness Books or other fact books, even the look and find books, will love this one. The illustrations are a great visual feast of mixed-media: real photos, animated characters, and artfully drawn mash-ups all together on every page. I’m looking forward to sharing this one with my students!
