Morning Sun in Wuhan

Written by Ying Chang Compestine

Too long to read aloud to a class, this is an excellent book to recommend for students who like coming of age stories, cook books, video games, and/or modern history and world cultures.

Using her own experiences as a native of Wuhan, China, Ying Chang Compestine shares a gripping story of a young girl living through the first days of the Covid-19 pandemic while coping with the recent loss of her mother and her father’s absence due to work. She finds joy in cooking and gaming, and she uses those skills to bring her community together through volunteering and standing up for each other. This book includes several recipes of traditional Chinese food with illustrations. They all sound delicious!
