This was a really cool coming of age story, as a boy named Amos pieces together both his love of history and his identity as a gay member of the LGBTQ+ community. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community as a young boy in Illinois is not easy–especially when that person develops feelings for someone who is not ready to feel those things in return. But, using history to strengthen his confidence, Amos finds that there have been amazing LGBTQ+ people throughout history that have changed our world, showing Amos that he, too, can face the hardships in his life. I thought this was a great story! I do not think I would keep it for our elementary library, but it would be a great one for a Junior High.
