The Ice Monster

Written by David Walliams

The Ice Monster is set in the Victorian era. The story is about Elsie, a 10-year-old orphan. She is determined to protect a 10,000-year-old mammoth from a host of nefarious characters in a bid to bring it back to its natural habitat from London to the Arctic Circle. It is a witty and entertaining tale full of adventure. Although the story is fictional, it transpires in a place of historical importance (London of the 1890s). I enjoyed how the author gives interesting facts about the wooly mammoth towards the end. The Ice Monster would be a fun read aloud enjoyed by young and old.
