Monster Club

Written by Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel, Illustrated by Ronald Kurniawan

Monster Club is a sweet, fun adventure story with some surprising themes about growing up and letting go. I found it a wildly creative read with really awesome and relatable characters. A group of artistic kids created a game around their monster drawings. Magic ink eventually brings those monsters to life, which unsurprisingly creates mayhem. Monster Club—the epic role-playing game that Eric & his friends created- becomes more real than they ever imagined! It’s on the Monster Club to save their city, the amusement park, and even Eric’s family. This is full of great life lessons about accepting change and growing up, plus some bullying aspects are included as well. I loved this story and would recommend it to all readers grades 3-6.
