Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring

Written and Illustrated by Kenard Pak

Kenard Pak has done a series of books taking readers from one season to the next. In this particular book, a young boy walks around outside and enjoys all there is about a winter night. As he walks he talks to the winter night and the different things he sees, i.e. “Hello, snow.” And the winter things talk back to him, i.e. the snow responding “Hello. From high up in the sky, I drift down, down, down.” As the winter night fades away and dawn arrives the boy can see that things are changing and are slowly leading into spring. The illustrations in particular make this evident by the use of light and dark, colder colors and warmer colors.

I love these books! The illustrations are gorgeous and the poetic nature of the text bring an appreciation for everything the seasons have to offer. It’s a great way to celebrate the changing seasons with young children.
