Marya is going to be turning eight soon and she wants nothing more than to have a big birthday party like her rich next-door neighbor, Alexa, has each year. The girls are in the same school class and their birthdays are only two days apart. Marya watches Alexa parade around the classroom passing out fancy invitations, talking about her upcoming birthday extravaganza. For Marya, her parents are busy with demanding work schedules and money is a bit tight, so a big party has never happened for Marya. Yet in her hopes to make it a reality, Marya claims that she’s having the most epic henna party ever! The rest of the story is about Marya’s efforts to make that happen. I cheered for her determination, laughed at her blunders as she tried to ease her parent’s burdens, and I was curious to see how it would all turn out in the end.
