Our Green City is an interactive picture book, great for all elementary ages. While the story itself is simple, the illustrations are fantastic! Multiple art styles are used on every page, making it a book that is fun to look at again and again. This book would serve as a good introduction to sustainable practices such as recycling and composting, shopping second hand, growing a garden, walking and biking, and using reusable energy. Would be a great addition to Earth Day reading and displays. Each page gives a brief description of these things and then invites the reader to look for more objects on the page or ways to respond or interact with the message. I can see this book being slightly more difficult for a class read-aloud simply because it would be hard for all students in a large group to spot the small details on each page, but it is excellent for one-on-one or small group reading.
